Can I bring my dog to Mesa Verde?

Pets are welcome in Mesa Verde National Park, but to protect your pets, wildlife, and other visitors, please follow these regulations: Pets must be leashed (6 feet/1.8 m or shorter leash) at all times. Do not leave pets tethered or unattended.

Mesa Verde is full of sites to see on your own. Some sites are open year-round, while others are open seasonally.

Big ones, small ones, fluffy ones, sleek ones—all of them are welcome visitors. However, we do have some regulations and general “petiquette” to keep in mind as you visit. Please keep your pet leashed (up to 6 feet) at all times.

Many sites in Mesa Verde may be visited by individuals without a ranger/guide, free of charge. Ranger-led walking tours of Cliff Palace, Balcony House and Long House are available on varying schedules, admission ticket purchase required for a nominal fee.

Pets are welcome in developed areas; essentially wherever a car can go. Pets are not permitted on trails (this includes the boardwalks at Badwater and Salt Creek and paved trails such as Zabriskie Point and Harmony Borax Works) or in Wilderness.

Dogs are permitted throughout the park (except in buildings) on a leash no longer than six feet long (and this includes in the water as well).

How Much Time Do You Need in Mesa Verde? One day is all that you need in Mesa Verde National Park, unless you plan on taking multiple tours or hiking multiple trails. If you only have half of a day, take a guided tour of Cliff Palace or Balcony House and see the viewpoints along Mesa Top Ruins Road.

The ancestral cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde are some of the best-preserved in all of North America. This on its own makes it a worthwhile visit. But there are also many other unique things to do and see if you're planning a road trip in southern Colorado that will most certainly round out the experience.

Pets are only allowed on paved surfaces, including park roads and campgrounds, the Shared-use Path, paved viewpoints (all viewpoints except Piracy Point), and the 1/2 mile (0.8 km) section of Rim Trail between Sunset and Sunrise Points.

Dogs: You can bring your dog to Havasupai Falls! But, be forewarned, as there are many unattended and unleashed dogs that roam freely throughout the reservation. Most are just looking for scraps and wandering, it's best to leave them alone, even if they seem friendly and approach you or your dog.

An abundance of pet-friendly hiking trails, cool spots by the creek and shady foliage make summer a great time to escape the Valley of the Sun and visit Sedona with your four-legged friend.

Considering the drawbacks of winter and summer, spring and fall are the best seasons to visit the park because there are fewer visitors (though not as few as there are in winter), and the weather is ideal. May and June are the best months in spring to visit Mesa Verde.

The route into the park is a steep, narrow, winding mountain road. Depending on weather, traffic, and road construction, plan at least two hours just to drive into and out of the park.

Only two cliff dwellings are open for self-guided tours. These fill up quickly, so if you want to go inside the amazing Cliff Palace, you must nab a spot on a guided tour early.

Alternatively, the park offers many great areas to explore on a pet-friendly visit to Joshua Tree National Park. Leashed pets are allowed as long as they remain within 100 feet (30.5 m) of roads, picnic areas, and campgrounds.

Yes! Dogs are welcome in Shoshone Falls park as long as they are on a leash. The only exception is, dogs are not allowed in the grassy area of Dierkes lake.

The only trail that allows pets is the Pa'rus Trail, which begins at the Zion Canyon Visitor Center. Pets are not permitted - on any other trails, wilderness areas, on shuttle buses, or in public buildings in Zion.

Spruce Tree House is the best preserved cliff dwelling in the Mesa Verde National Park. It is the third largest cliff dwelling behind Cliff Palace and Long House and was constructed sometime between 1211 and 1278. The dwelling has around 130 rooms and 8 kivas and was estimated to be the home to around 60 to 80 people.

It will close again for finishing work on the bike lane and accesibility paths in spring of 2023. The Cliff Palace Loop Road is closed for the winter. If snow accumulation allows, cross-country ski and snowshoeing trails will open this winter.

The park is always open, except under emergency conditions. Sites, picnic areas, and most trails are open 8 am to sunset.

Cliff Dwelling Tours at Mesa Verde

Tickets are required and available online 14 days in advance of the tour. Keep in mind, tickets sell out within 15 minutes the day the reservation becomes available.

Driving the Mesa Top Loop Road

One of the easiest ways to see the sights of Mesa Verde is on a leisurely drive along the Mesa Top Loop Road. Seven hundred years of history are packed into this six-mile trail.

As an archaeological site, Mesa Verde naturally offers only limited accessibility, especially for those whose physical abilities are restricted. The Manitou Cliff Dwellings, on the other hand, are within a very short walking distance from the car park, and you can enter the buildings and walk around in them.

Reservations for timed entry are not available, nor required, at Mesa Verde National Park.

Cliff Palace, at about 150 rooms, is the largest cliff dwelling in the park. The one-hour, ranger-guided tour involves 120 uneven stone steps and climbing five, 8-10 foot (2.6-3m) ladders on a 100 foot (30m) vertical climb. Total walking distance is about 1/4-mile (400m), round-trip.

Does Moab allow dogs?

Pets must be leashed at all times when outside a vehicle and may be walked only on roads or in parking lots. Pets may accompany visitors in campgrounds. Generally, pets may accompany you as you hike on public land in Canyon Country outside of the national parks.

Antelope Canyon had been on our travel bucket list, but it was never towards the top because the guided tours are not dog friendly. But, to our surprise, the canyon itself IS dog friendly.

Leashed pets may accompany you along established front-country roads, parking areas, in established front-country campgrounds and picnic areas.

You'll find this gem just off the Stuart Highway, Elsey. Other top dog-friendly camping spots include: Robin Falls, Dorat Road, near Litchfield NT. Mud Tank Zircon Field, Plenty Hwy NT.

Silver Falls State Park welcomes visitors and their pets to most areas of the park. However; for the safety of you and other hikers, pets are not allowed on the Canyon Trail or on the connecting trails of Winter Trail, Maple Ridge Trail and Twin Falls Trail.

No pets allowed. Please use our footbridges as low water crossings are slick and dangerous. Turner Falls Park is NOT responsible for lost or stolen items.

Devil's Bridge

This is a classic Sedona hike featuring a natural bridge. As one of the more popular dog friendly Sedona hikes, parking at any of the trailheads for Devil's Bridge can be difficult. Get an early start, or head out mid-afternoon to avoid the crowds.

Breeds that are generally excluded include Pit bulls, Akitas, Chow Chows, Rottweilers, and German Shepherds.

Dogs are welcome but they need to be able to get up & down steep steps. It is probably best to keep them on a lead for their safety and that of other visitors. Afon Mynach (Monks River) makes a dramatic descent, over spectacular waterfalls at Devil's Bridge.

Are dogs allowed on Antelope Canyon Tours?

This region of the United States is stunning and a must-see destination for your bucket list. The most common way to explore the Antelope Canyon is through guided tours on Navajo land, but this option does not allow dogs.

This is a very popular area for hiking, off-road driving, and running, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. You'll need to leave pups at home — dogs aren't allowed on this trail.

Just be sure to keep your dog on leash, so it will not disturb other animals and visitors. Operating Hours: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Mon. to Sun.) Less than an hour away from Quezon Memorial Circle, La Mesa Eco Park is perhaps the biggest ecotourism destination in Metro Manila.

Leashed pets are welcome on the lagoon side of the park, but not on the beach.

The Outer Banks is one of the most pet-friendly vacation destinations on the East Coast, so we encourage you to bring all the members of the family. With plenty of dog-friendly beaches, vacation rentals, and local attractions, your four-legged friend will have plenty of opportunities to accompany you during your stay.

Pets are only allowed off-season from October 15 to April 15 and must be kept on a leash of not more than six feet in length. Stay on trails.

Dogs are welcome in Horseshoe Bend NMP as long as their companions keep them leashed with no more than six feet of leash extended at any time. Dogs must also be under their human companions physical restraint at all times.

Activities with pets are very limited at Arches. You may not take a pet on any hiking trails. You may have your pet with you in the campground, and at pullouts along the paved scenic drives. You may walk your pets on roads or in parking lots, but they must be leashed at all times when outside a vehicle.

They are strict about no dogs which I understand is disappointing for some but sheep are not fenced off etc. Perhaps there could be issues if they got off the lead and got stuck in the boggy land too. There are currently restrictions on the land access for us humans too.

PARK UPDATE: ATTENTION: Harriman State Park of Idaho is a waterfowl and wildlife refuge. Dogs must be on a leash at all times and are not permitted beyond the parking lots at the main trails.

Should I bring my dog to Moab?

Although Arches and Canyonlands National Parks are not particularly dog friendly, the town of Moab and its surrounding public lands welcome dogs with open arms!

Eco Park Kolkata is pet friendly, you can bring your dog. Remember, to keep him on-a-leash.

Dog Hikes. You and your dog can hike any trail in Kelowna, including those in Myra-Bellevue Provincial Park, so long as your companion is on-leash.

The entire County Line and Ward cross country ski trail systems are dog friendly. The Skyway ski trail system is dog-free by consensus of our ski community.
