Did Tina Turner ever forgive Ike?
In a recent chat with British newspaper, the Times, Turner said she's forgiven Ike Turner for abusing her during their marriage. “As an old person, I have forgiven him, but it would not work with him,” she said.
Tina Turner was married to Ike Turner for 16 years until they divorced in 1978. The couple had two biological sons Ronald Renelle Turner and Craig Raymond Turner and Tina adopted two of Ike's other children Ike Turner Jr. and Michael Turner and raised them as her own.
He said he feels no bitterness or jealousy about Tina's comeback and that he is not bothered by Tina's accounts of the abuse he used to inflict. "Everybody has fights," Turner said. "Some of them say I beat her, I was brutal to her. I think you can look at her and see about how brutal I've been.
On July 27, 1976, Tina filed for divorce on the grounds of irreconcilable differences. Years later in her 1986 autobiography I, Tina: My Life Story, she alleged that Ike had abused her throughout their marriage.
But as noted earlier, the film is loosely based on Tina Turner's autobiography, meaning certain parts of it (several actually) were “fictionalized for dramatic purposes.”
In the scene, Tina fights back after Ike strikes her; in real-life, Turner did the same, but after arriving at the hotel bloodied and swollen, she massaged Ike's head so he would fall asleep.
According to the U.S. Embassy in Bern, Switzerland's activity report, Turner said she did not have plans to live in the U.S. in the future and her family was her only strong tie to her native country.
