If you are an avid hiker, consider spending three days in Acadia, because there are a lot of fun trails here. If you only want to see the main highlights and spend some time in lovely Bar Harbor, two full days is the perfect amount of time to spend in Acadia National Park.
We recommend spending two to three days in Acadia National Park. This will give you enough time to drive Park Loop Road, do a few short hikes, bike the carriage roads, watch the sunrise from Cadillac Mountain, and snack on popovers at the Jordan Pond House.

September-October
Once September hits, the summer rush that floods Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park will be gone, making it the perfect time to visit if you're hoping to avoid the crowds. However, because of the region's stunning fall foliage, the area still draws visitors.
Visit Acadia early morning or late afternoon to find less-crowded experiences. Visit in winter, spring, or late fall, to experience Acadia at its most peaceful.
Best Time to Visit Acadia National Park for Good Weather
As a local, July and August are the most pleasant months for warm weather, but the changing of seasons in September and October bring an array of colors that shouldn't be missed.
This unique trail follows a tidal sandbar north across the Mt. Desert Narrows from downtown Bar Harbor to Bar Island. The island is great for walking and for playing on rocks and in tide pools. From the elevated parts of the trail you will see a sprawling view of Mount Desert Island and the town of Bar Harbor.
How long does it take to drive the loop at Acadia?
To drive through Acadia National Park on the 27 mile Park Loop Road, we recommend allowing yourself a minimum of about 3 hours. Depending on how much you want to stop and look around, that time may vary.
To avoid the crowds, visit between Labor Day weekend and mid-to-late September or May to June. No matter when you visit, be sure to pack your warmest clothes and book your accommodations early. Acadia is a popular national park, so hotels and campgrounds will sell out.

I recommend spending a minimum of two to three days in Acadia National Park to see the main sights on Mount Desert Island and hike a few trails and carriage roads. Since the park is so far north in Maine away from major cities, it's worth it to spend more than just one day in Acadia National Park.

Cadillac Summit Road is located off the Park Loop Road, and can be accessed at the beginning or end of the loop. It is a windy, paved 3.5 miles up to the summit.
The vast majority of Acadia National Park does not require additional reservations, so visitors have many options for enjoying mountain summits, trails and historic roads while paying only the park entrance fee.
Much of the road is one way. This continues all the way to Wildwood Stables where it begins a two way section that passes Jordan Pond northward where it arrives at the entrance to the Cadillac Mountain summit road.

The Bar Harbor/Bangor Shuttle is a private shuttle service that operates June through October on a reservation basis. Downeast Transportation provides bus service throughout Hancock County connecting in Ellsworth. For example, on Fridays, you can take a bus from Bar Harbor to Stonington via Ellsworth.
One of the most well-known sights in the park is Cadillac Mountain. Standing at 1530 feet tall, Cadillac is the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard. It is also the first place to view sunrise in the United States from October 7 through March 6.
